Airbnb Photography Guide: What Gets Properties Booked
Why hero images out-perform interiors, how to brief an Adelaide photographer for short-stay conversion, and the shot list every listing should ship with.
6 min read

The single most under-leveraged tool in Adelaide short-stay management is the camera. The hero image alone drives roughly a third of click-through on Airbnb search; the next four images decide whether a click becomes a booking. Everything in your listing — title, copy, even price — sits downstream of that decision.
Here is how we brief, shoot, and rotate photography for every Adelaide property we manage.
Shot list
The six images every listing needs
01
Hero composition
Wide, slightly elevated, leading lines pointing into the brightest part of the room. This is your click-through driver — shoot 8-10 variants and split-test.
02
Twilight exterior
Shot 20-30 minutes after sunset with interior lights on. Carries a 12-18% click-through lift over daytime exteriors in Adelaide markets.
03
Lifestyle vignettes
Coffee on the bench, throw on the sofa, towel folded on the bath — guests project themselves into the space when they see use, not staging.
04
Bedroom from doorway
Show the whole room, not just the bed. Doorway-perspective shots reduce 'is it big enough' booking hesitation.
05
Bathroom detail
One wide, one close. Bathrooms are the #2 reason for negative reviews — clear photos pre-qualify expectations.
06
Neighbourhood context
Coffee shop two blocks down, the linear park, the tram stop. Adelaide guests overwhelmingly book on suburb, not address.

How to brief an Adelaide photographer
Don't book a real-estate photographer — they shoot for buyer intent, not booking intent. Look for someone with hospitality or editorial credits. Brief them on the shot list above, the time of day for each shot, and the styling props you will bring on the day. Always shoot in two passes: empty room (real-estate style) for inspection use, then styled hospitality shots for the listing.
Re-shoot seasonally — the same room photographed in May light feels different in February light, and Adelaide guests scroll listings in the season they intend to book.
